Months of September, October and November are the months of Street Festivals and carnivals we normally call "sagre" in Emilia Romagna.
If you are looking for particular things to do in Bologna and Region and you really want to go deeply into the Italian traditions don’t miss the opportunity to participate in the following events:
Harvest is coming and the famous festival of Lambrusco Grasparossa wine is at its 50th edition in Castelvetro of Modena. Sunday 16th and 24th September are the main dates in which you can enjoy the street tastings and carnival (Carro di Bacco) alongside the streets of Castelvetro from 11.00 am up to 6.00 p.m with visit to this nice burg, farms and vineyards.
Moreover from 8th to 17th September a fantastic “Tortellino” festival in Castelfanco of Modena takes place. You can enjoy a tasting of the real tortellino of Modena in many stands in the streets but often in the ceramic plates, never in the plastic ones!
“Mortadella Bologna” is celebrated in Zola Predosa (a village close to Bologna) on 16th and 17th September. Production factories open their doors to public and a nice street food tasting along the streets takes place at lunch time. You can get your glass of wine and try different recipes with mortadella along the streets. Cooking show and market during the days.
8th, 15th and 22nd October it’s time for Chestnuts! In a little village, 30 kms. away from Reggio Emilia, immersed in secular chestnut trees, Marola, famous for the Romanesque abbey built by countess Matilde di Canossa, you can find “Caldarroste” in the main square, historical commemoration of the meeting between Matilde and abbot Giovanni da Marola, and a funny tour of “castagna” (nice walk for kids along the streets).
Also truffles and chocolate festivals are on the way! Ask me when.
Don’t miss the opportunity to visit Italy and especially Emilia Romagna in September, October and November 2017.
